Quiet often we see musicians of the highest calibre playing in the dirtiest of dives and most obscure of places yet we still see the most awful talentless people making it big on the worlds stage.
is all about talent or percepton? does talent = fame. does fame = talent.
its all about how people perceive your talent.
if you are a musician frustrated by the lack of recognition you may or may not receive you should read this.[link below]
its about putting a hugely talented and well paid concert violinist in a busking situation on the street. do people recognize the talent or he is he just a another street urchin worth giving a penny or two?

Fact….
Screaming kids are always gonna sit near you on an airplane!!!!
Every noticed how when you fly you always get the awful undisciplined horrible kid[s] sat near you, just after you’ve done a big gig the night before and you are hung over and want to be asleep as soon as you flop down in that tight uncomfortable pile of rubbishy steel and fabric that has the shape that only 10,000 seated asses can indent into something they call an aircraft seat.??
Even since the do gooders [those who decree their moral rights onto everyone yet maintain their own lives distinctly immoral] taught us that smacking your kids is not good for them and the kid being naughty and acting like a little shit is just them ‘expresing themselves” the world has turned out about 2 generations of kids that are absolute horrors.
Now don’t get me wrong I like kids but I couldn’t eat a whole one!! haha
So u are sitting in your 23E seat on the already horribly cramped plane designed only for midgets, gnomes, and pygmies, and the white trash family you saw making a disturbance in the terminal whist in the burger king eating monster size everything comes on with the henpecked husband complete with premature bald spot, the once attractive wife who’s ass is just a bit to big to be squeezing in the seat, and two little darlings who are already whinging and have snotty noses and smell like they just crapped their pants.
And you just PRAY they will walk past 23F where there is a nice spare seat for you stretch out on later in the flight. Sure enough, after dumping three tons of luggage and that stuff you have to carry around as soon as you have kids, into the overhead locker, whilst holding up the boarding of the plane for 10 minutes while they piss about arranging who sits next to daddy etc, they sit right next to you.. your day is ruined my friends.
Is starts out with the “blank stare” , like u are something from another planet and the kid has never seen a muso before.. then the ‘what are you doing?’ then the “why” and why again then the throwing of the biscuits or the dropping of the water in your lap. Then screaming after the parents tell them to be quiet.. and of course you cant say anything because the parents will “have you for being a bit strange” and maybe a little bit like a child molester because you talked to the kid .and you ‘looked like a hippy or something” just the type of tripe CNN and jerry Springer would like to feature on their next bulletin.
Oh yes they love anything to do with ‘alleged stories’ of abused kids on those shows . [“allegedly” of course is nice word where they can tell everyone you’re a bad person on air but its not proved or even checked but makes good headlines. and you cant sue them for defamation because they only said ‘allegedly”] your life is doomed anyway by then.
So the flight goes on and on and on the kids never shut up, they are always bored, don’t want to wear the seat belt, want to run around the plane until, and then, as will inevitably happen the kid will trip over something and hurt themselves. Well kids, its called responsibility for your own actions and you gotta learn that one mighty fast… run round the plane , fall down, get hurt…..its your own bloody fault you little shit. But of course the parents are mad and decide ‘hey its the airlines fault our little angel fell down , lets sue them” oh yes..and make a bit o money from the lawyer too….
Welcome to the western world my friends where nothing is anyone’s fault but someone else’s.

You think the main risks are,
bad pilots?
Bad weather?
lightning?
Bad planes?
Nah!!!!!
It’s the bloody knucklehead greedy bastard CEO’s and flunky ‘I went harvard so I can run an airline even though I don’t a jet from a hairdryer” directors of the shonky profit obsessed companies that run the airlines that create the risks and kill more people than crooked African dictatorships , the Taliban, USA “friendly fire” in Iraq, and the running of the bulls in Spain put together!!
Yeap folks, mousey, mole faced, glasses wearing accountants and nerdy ‘I used to work at radio shack and still have my K mart shirt and tie” bean counters are the true cause of most airplane accidents and crispy fried dead passengers Why?
Trying to save money on maintenance and upkeep and using dodgy old ‘would you buy a plane off this guy’ used up old airplanes.
Remember the space shuttle that crashed on take off in the 80’s??? yeah well that was caused by a $20.00 part failure as NASA wanted to save money on a $200000000000000000000000000 space shuttle .. stupid huh? Well the airlines are worse!!
That reminds there was a band around at that time called” the crisp little astronauts”.. great name but not real PC huh?
there was also a bunch of my loser fellow musicians that called their band “the DC tenz” after that awful passenger killer the DC 10 airplane. Don’t get ever get one of those folks .. they are the now renamed MD something or other.. . that butt ugly plane with the jet engine stuck in the tail like a big turd in someone’s ass that trying to get out but cant.. biggest bloody killer in the skies those piles of shite are.[* axel’s biased and unfactual opinions only written there folks]..ED
Some airlines are still flying pieces of junk that were considered past their use by date in 1973.. which is fine if that sucker is maintained. But maintenance cost money and money is what the airlines want to make not spend
Its like playing ten gig nights in a row with the same old guitar strings on your axe… you know they are gonna break soon , but you just hope they don’t…well that’s what the bosses of the airlines do too!! except breaking your string wont kill a bunch of people …it makes u look like the dumbass that you are, but it wont be dangerous ..just stupid and unprofessional. Just change the strings and spend the $$ and be done with it.. makes sense huh?. Try telling the mushroom head airline execs that!! …..no way man..they need that extra million $$ profit today for the big house, the BMW, and the high maintenance trophy wife, the kids snotty big name college fund, the Gucci suits and Armani shoes, and oh don’t forget the gold club membership and the gentlemen’s club with the high class hookers that are oh so discreet…the execs are thinking……..”I do hope that our plane doesn’t crash on the golf course mind you,. That would not do.. some shitty river in asia would do fine thanks .those people don’t count as they are foreign and poor and the investigation would be easy to cover up… now back to the golf swing……”
Back in my glory days as a major rock star I wasnt too worried as the airlines made money and the government kept a close eye on these shysters that tried to skip on keeping there planes all shiny and new. Now there days I am a nervous flyer as the airlines are all going broke and into ‘self regulation’ [that’s about as sound an idea s drunks self regulating themselves at the local boozer with an open bar account]and the folks who investigate them are in on the old ‘bribes under the table trick’ to make sure that the correct paper work is easily signed off as correct even though it aint.
Anyway one look at which shite airlines are banned from flying in snobby ol Europe will tell you which ones to avoid. But don’t trust the airlines folks they are as trustworthy as crooked ‘declared family men with Christian values” politicians in las vegas with a ten hookers in tow with an endless supply of booze, crack, and condoms.
Lucky for me these days I don’t tour like I used but when ever one of those big jets are taking of over my house I just wonder how long before one of those suckers lands in a burning mass of crap on old axel’s roof and takes me and my vintage guitar collection with it!!

HEY ………I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE AIRLINES I USED WHEN I WAS A ROCK STAR!! I REMEMBER NOW…..
the crappy seats in cattle class.
Whether you fly budget no frills or expensive premium airlines the cattle class conditions wont change. You still have no where to put your legs, the service is crap and the toilets smell of too many people crapping too often… no disinfectant can ever seem to get that smell out.
Also when airline advertise their products do you ever see a whole bunch of white trash folk like u and me sitting all confined in a small area ?? oh no you see rich pretty white folks bunking down in their business class recliners with silver spoons and pretty hostesses serving each one with fruit juices and champagne with a look of ‘how about we do the mile high club later” look on their smug and painted faces [males or female flight attendants do the same thing I might add.]
The toilet don’t smell up in business and first class, because, as we know, just like movie stars that have been locked in a room for 3 days , the rich and beautiful don’t go to the crapper, and if they do they smell like flowers!!!!….just ask them!!
So we are stuck in the ‘economy section’ of the plane.. which translates to ‘cheap and low class” section.. you pay cut price fares so you get treated like cut price passengers. The check in process is long, there is no lounge to sit in, you get on and off the plane last, you get charged $2,000,000 for every kilogram your luggage is over weight, you never seem to get the roomier exit row no matter how hard you try, there is previous passenger dandruff on the head rest, the guy next to you smells like shit[literally], the other person next to you is so fat they spill over the arm rest into your seat area, the flight attendant always looks pissed off if you press the call button, the tv in the seat in front of you never works correctly, the slob in the seat in front of you always tilts his seat too far back, and you eat food that tastes like it was made two years ago in a slave factory in china [ it possibly was actually!!!]
The only good thing is that being in the middle and the back of the plane , if that sucker goes down in screaming heap of fire and mangled metal you may probably survive better than the rich folks up the front. The expensive ticket aint gonna save them up there my friends!!
In my days I could take my guitar in a gig bag on the plane.. now you gotta put it in the hold..or buy a seat for your guitar!! True!!.

THE AIRLINES #1
You know there was a time when I was younger and I was a great touring musician in a very big band [best bass player in the world my fans would say] that I would be flying in airplanes all over the world. I still do but now I have to pay for it myself …. Seems cheaper now but I have never understand this booking online things??? I guess I need a computer for that huh? Oh well
Some things never change about airlines though.
1: the cheap crappy seats and conditions in “cattle class”
2: the risk you take from dodgy accountants and greedy CEO’s using crappy bits on the planes when they maintain them
3: the screaming kid who always sits beside or in front / behind you
4: the absolute tripe written in the airline magazine in the seat pocket.
What this got to do with music?? Well quite a bit ..you see the music industry , at least the folks who make the equipment and guitars etc still care about what they make. They still have passion…the ‘bottom line’ isn’t the ONLY thing.. we are lucky that the CEO’s of most musical corporations were once and still are musicians.. now compare that to most other industries , like airlines and you have a big difference .it is all about ‘the numbers ‘and the almighty$$$$$
Do you think the guys running the airlines are ex pilots . no bloody way. the pilots hate the airlines as much as we do and the CEO’s hate the pilots. They don’t give a shit if they are good pilots or not. its all about…..
”just get the plane in the air and stay on time…if it crashes [usually because we used a $2.00 part on the last maintenance inspection rather than the $200.00 one we supposed to use, well bad bloody luck we are insured .we will blame the pilot anyway if we have a crash as they are not alive to defend themselves. do we give a shit about dead a burning passengers??... NO.. mind you we will go on CNN and BBC and pretend ,with concerned and practiced expressions of sorrow we are…. but we don’t give a toss really”
Now the guys running the show at guitar factories etc DO give a toss, they DO care whether people like the guitars/amps etc and that they will have a good product. Its not all about the $$$ [mind you in the past it WAS and nearly resulted on the big ‘F’ and ‘G” boys going broke ..but that’s another story…
Anyway ya all , looks I have has done one or two many beers tonight and I am going off track about my airline story..
ok where was I……….. oh yes…
you know what???sod it!!! I am going to sleep now.. I will write more tmw on this bounced cheque I just wrote and give it to one of the axebay lads then…. toodle pip my dear folks….zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
